Fading Lines
My mum has been diagnosed with Semantic Dementia. A very rare form of the illness that is slowly robbing her of the ability to communicate. With the breakdown of her long-term semantic memory (the capacity to recall words, concepts & facts) she’s gradually losing the power of speech & the meaning of words. I took these pictures for memory but also to somehow navigate the sense of loss I feel as I mourn the person she once was & accept the person she is now & will become. The pictures are also some sort of visual diary, to investigate the meaning of what we call home.
